Print Select Installs first DP8700XL in UK

In Digital Presses on October 11, 2011 at 2:32 pm

MGi Technology, Hemel Hempstead, the UK’s main front-line distributor for MGi digital printing equipment, has announced details of the first DP8700XL digital press to be installed in the UK at Print Select, East London. The machine has been selected to replace an aging HP Indigo system and to further compliment the company’s B1 Komori offset press.

The recently launched MGi DP8700XL was supplied with the “Super XL” option enabling Print Select to output a 1020mm long sheet and for the production of short-run six-page landscape A4 jobs – work that is currently runs on the Komori offset machine. The addition of this feature means that the company is one of only three printers that can offer the long sheet format in the UK.

In addition to its litho and digital print production, Print Select has added a new “web-to-print” system to enhance its services to clients.

“The service we received from MGi Technology was extremely professional,” said Pete Nelson, director, Print Select. “After a long evaluation process we made the decision to purchase an MGi press. We were confident that we had made the right decision due to our extensive research, which included conversations with a number of existing MGi users both in the UK and in mainland Europe, as well as thorough reviews of competitive product from the likes of HP, Xerox, and Kodak.

“In the main, they are all offering more of the same. MGi brings something different to the party: the quality is excellent, and the extended format allows a wider range of work to be produced. The ability of MGi to handle a wide range of materials is also a key point of difference. Yes, printing on plastics might open some doors, but even just the wide range of standard paper products that can be printed on the DP8700 sets it apart from other digital products.

“Print quality is critical to our business and with the MGi press we are now able to offer litho-quality digital print with no restriction on format. An upgrade to our online systems will take place over the next few months to accommodate the expected increase in business.

“Colour and print quality is of the utmost importance to our customers. We can now offer the same standards of quality for a short-run digital product as for a litho printed product with a high-volume print run. The MGi DP8700XL, with its traditional style of feeder, enables printers to run the substrates we need to when other solutions would struggle,” said Nelson.

David Evans, Managing Director, MGi Technology said: “Having developed a good understanding of Print Select’s requirements we are comfortable that this is the best product available on the market today for their needs. Much of the testing focussed around high-quality six-page A4 landscape property brochures that were being produced on the B1 Komori. Installing the MGi will give Print Select the option of printing these jobs, plus never turning away requests for plastic products too!”
