Benson Group, one of the UK’s leading privately owned printed folding carton manufacturers, has announced details of a record-breaking performance by its North East operations, Benson Group Gateshead and Benson Group Newburn. Joint print production for the two sites over the week commencing July 15, 2012, hit a staggering 5 million sheets.
Within this total the Gateshead site set a new record of its own, with 3 million sheets on the floor for the week; Newburn also set a site record with 2 million sheets produced; whilst in post-press production the cut-and-crease team broke yet another record with 4.4 million sheets produced – a new group high.
If one more triumph were needed, the Gateshead printing press labeled within the business as K2, but known to the rest of the world as a B1-format Komori L40, was the best performing machine during this period. Surprisingly to some it also happens to be the oldest press in the group. K2 printed just over 1 million sheets at an operational efficiency of 60% (it has a target of 30%).
Commenting on the performance of his teams at Benson Group Gateshead and Benson Group Newburn, Andrew Pybus, General Manager of Benson Group North East, said: “The teams at both sites have really stepped up to the plate this last few weeks. The amount of work coming through our factories at the moment is unprecedented, and we are delighted to say that we have both the people and the equipment, along with the logistics and scheduling systems, to produce these big production numbers.”
