Ray Hillhouse Rewarded with Director Role

In Finishing on August 14, 2013 at 12:53 pm

Morgana Systems Ltd, Milton Keynes, the UK’s leading manufacturer of equipment for digital finishing, has announced the promotion of Ray Hillhouse to the position of Director of Sales and Marketing.

Ray joined the company back in January 2010 and since that time has led the UK sales team through very challenging economic and market conditions. He has driven the company’s marketing programmes, including the creation of the new Morgana web site, introduced new collateral materials, and introduced new products to the UK market.

Ray_Hillhouse_2013Since the purchase of Morgana Systems by Plockmatic International, Ray has also taken a lead role in the integration of the product lines, including the release of the Plockmatic bookletmakers into the UK market, and assisting some of the company’s international distributors with their sales and marketing activities.

Commenting on Ray’s new role, Quen Baum, Managing Director of Morgana Systems, said: “Ray will now take full responsibility for all sales and marketing activities worldwide. His objective will be to grow sales overall, but specifically for our own Morgana and Plockmatic manufactured products. The focus for this will include working even closer with our existing distribution partners and helping them to grow business in their territories, appointing new dealers where appropriate, and entering markets where we have yet to establish a presence.”

In addition to his role as Managing Director, Mr Baum will continue to manage distribution in the North American market.

Speaking about these additional challenges, Ray Hillhouse said: “I am delighted to take on these additional responsibilities, and know that we have the product range to expand our presence further in many, many international markets. As digital printing continues to expand its share of the graphic arts market, Morgana and Plockmatic equipment will be right there to provide those essential post-press actions that create the finished job.”

Ryobi 760E Press Ready for Print Efficiently 2013

In Offset Presses on August 14, 2013 at 12:49 pm

Ryobi's 760E in four-colour configurationApex Digital Graphics, the official UK distributor of Ryobi printing equipment, has announced the arrival of the UK’s first Ryobi 760E press, a B2-format, space-saving offset-litho press of unitised construction. This 765E configuration has been commissioned and is ready for demonstration ahead of the Print Efficiently 2013 exhibition, taking place at the Hemel Hempstead showroom of Apex on October 1, 2, 3 and 8, 9, and 10.

Space savings for this compact B2 press come from the inclusion of the Ryobi PCS-K printing control system above the new low-pile delivery section of the machine, and new-style footboards. The press is based on the true unit design of the 750 Series, incorporating the same 7 o’clock cylinder layout with double sized impression and transfer cylinders.

Centre Stage

The Ryobi 760E will take centre stage at the forthcoming Print Efficiently 2013 event, which is being held this year at Apex’s Hemel Hempstead headquarters. “Print Efficiently was a great success last year. It very well attended, with orders being placed for almost all of the suppliers that took part,” said Bob Usher, Managing Director of Apex. “It was decided by the organising committee to change the venue to our Hemel Hempstead showroom from IFS’s excellent Perivale facility to spread the appeal of the event to an even wider audience. Our M1 location should make it even easier for British printers to visit and enjoy the wide selection of new and enhanced equipment solutions.”

Full details of Print Efficiently 2013 can be found at and a Twitter feed is already up and running – see @Efficiently2013 for more details. The event will incorporate a range of seminars and debates focusing on key industry topics. See for further information.

Compact B2

Commenting on the introduction of the new press, Neil Handforth, Sales and Marketing Director at Apex Digital Graphics, said: “We are delighted that Ryobi have responded so positively to the changes in demand from the market place. The 760 Series opens up new possibilities with its compact design within a unitised structure. In spite of the number of digital products launched into the B2 sector at Drupa, most of which will not be commercially available for some time yet, we are convinced that offset still has a significant role to play in this format.”

The Ryobi / Kodak partnership, announced during Drupa, is already allowing printers to combine the best of offset with the personalisation capabilities of digital production – a combination that Apex see as bringing the best of both world’s together.

Paper Handling

Handling paper sizes through to 765 x 600mm (30.12 x 23.62 inches) the new Ryobi 760E provides for a maximum printing area of 765 x 545mm for the S type machine, and 765 x 580 for the XL type press. A double-diameter impression cylinder and transfer drum aid stable and efficient paper transport, even when printing heavier stocks. Paper weights from 0.04 through to 0.6mm are accommodated for straight printing, with a maximum of 0.4mm for perfecting. The 760E press is capable of printing up to 13,000 sheets per hour.

Semi-automatic plate changing is provided as standard for fast and efficient plate changing. Ryobi-matic continuous dampening ensures uniform dampening of the plate and together with the heavy duty inking system, help produce the sharpest of dots and heaviest of solids, whilst the ultrasonic double sheet detector fitted as standard helps to ensure fast and efficient running of the press.

Ryobi long-trusted program inking automatically selects the right conversion curve for each colour according to the image area ratio data that has been calculated during the pre-press stage and Ryobi’s PDS-E SpectroJet is available to numerically control the printing process.

For perfecting the 760EP models are equipped with a convertible perfecting device consisting of a single-diameter transfer drum, a double-diameter storage drum, and a single-diameter turning drum. Switching between straight and perfecting printing modes can be controlled from the touch panel display of the printing control system.
