In Digital Presses, Finishing on September 27, 2013 at 8:51 am

Morgana Systems Ltd, Milton Keynes, the UK’s leading manufacturer of equipment for digital finishing, has announced that the distribution of its products in Germany will now be handled by Hefter Systemform following the previously announced financial difficulties at former master distributor for the territory, Ernst Nagal GmbH.

As the new master distributor for Morgana Systems, Hefter Systemform, based in Prien am Chiemsee, Bavaria, offers some 40 years of know-how in the paper processing market. The company is also a distributor for Morgana parent company Plockmatic International. The new partner will continue to honour existing agreements with key regional sub-distributors that currently handle Morgana products in Germany.

Commenting on the appointment, Quen Baum, Managing Director of Morgana Systems, said: “Following the significant changes at Nagal it was important for us to seek a new and effective distribution partner. We are delighted to be able to announce an agreement with Hefter Systemform for the distribution of our Morgana products throughout the important European territory of Germany, and we look forward to a long a successful relationship with the business. We believe that the company will help to significantly expand our market share in the highly advanced and sophisticated German printing market.”

Support and spare parts for existing Morgana finishing equipment in Germany – much of which was re-branded by Nagal – will be transferred to the new master distributor and its partners. “Due to the significant size of Germany it is common for print industry products to be sold and serviced via sub-distributors,” commented Ray Hillhouse, Director of Sales and Marketing at Morgana Systems. “By retaining existing partners our new master distributor will be very well positioned to continue to service current customers as well as expand our presence in Germany.”

The new agreement will be formally announced at the Druck+Form trade fair taking place in Sinsheim, October 9 to 12, 2013, where Hefter Systemform will exhibit a wide range of Morgana Systems equipment (hall 6, stand 6416), including the DocuFold, AutoCreaser 50 and AutoFold, CardXtra and CardXtra Plus multifunction finishing devices, and the very popular DigiFold combined creasing and folding unit (as pictured above).

Commenting on his company’s new agreement with Morgana Systems, Hefter Systemform Sales Manager, Johann Menzinger, said: “We are delighted to be working with this market leading range of post-press equipment targeted at the digital print producer. As in all European markets, digital print production in Germany is growing at an extraordinary pace and many printers are actively searching for suitable finishing devices to help them to keep pace with demand. We believe strongly that Morgana Systems has some excellent products for these print businesses.”

Fujifilm Passes 100 microDot Orders

In Pre-Press on September 24, 2013 at 5:51 pm

ccDotmeter, the UK technology company and dotmeter specialist, has announced that orders from Fujifilm offices throughout the world for its microDot dotmeter product have now passed the 100 unit mark.

The microDot is used by Fujiiflm’s plate specialists’ to measure the image on the plate, and then calibrate the platesetter. The company also promotes the use of microDot to its customers.

Commenting on the 100-unit milestone Paul Foster, Sales Director of ccDotmeter, said: “This is another great success for British software in the printing industry. Fujifilm is a company that focuses on print quality. It has successfully grown its plate and platesetter business by ensuring that customers are getting the very best from these products. As part of that whole package the business understands the need to measure plates to guarantee continued accuracy. The microDot itself was thoroughly tested by Fujifilm both in the UK and at its Tilburg factory prior to Fujifilm Europe recommending the product to its subsidiary operations and dealerships.

The microDot is suitable for reading a wide range of plate types including Fujifilm’s Brillia HD PRO-T3 – described by many as the world’s most advanced printing plate. PRO-T3 uses no processor chemistry or gum, making it one of the most environmentally friendly plate offerings available.

Sean Lane, Product Manager, Offset Solutions, at Fujifilm UK, added: “The microDot gives us fast and accurate feedback when our engineers are out in the field installing equipment or preparing customers for our printing plates. We get speedy, reliable data returned from every reading taken meaning that we can set-up equipment quickly and accurately, leaving customers with a machine that will surpass every quality standard in the market. We generally recommend that they purchase a dotmeter themselves, as it is the best way of checking that their platesetter will continue to deliver the standards that we know it is capable of.

“Complex electro-mechanical equipment such as a platesetter does need checking regularly to ensure that the highest quality standards are still being maintained. This is not a flaw in the plates or the imaging device. This is why printing standards such as ISO12647-2 stipulate the need for a device to accurately measure plate creation equipment. By investing a few hundred pounds in a microDot printers can save themselves a lot of expensive wasted time, spoilt print that goes in the bin, and annoyed customers. It’s a no brainer!”

Viewing your Print in Detail: microDot

microDot is a combination of software developed by Centurfax – the originators of the dotmeter with the ccDot product – and a powerful, off-the-shelf, digital microscope.

The microDot device can connect to a PC via a USB connection for instant analysis of the percentage dot and image. The easy to install PC software can calculate screen ruling, percentage dot values and screen angles. The device and software are suitable for measuring dots on film, plate or printed paper.

The measuring unit is highly portable and lightweight. Users simply link to their PC when they want to download the images that they have gathered. Image dots of less than 10 micron are perfectly readable by microDot meaning that the unit is ideal for all types of screening, including FM, hybrid and AM. The device can be set up to read multiple colour plates.

Once an image has been downloaded to a PC it can be measured for percentage dot size, screen ruling and screen angle. Images can, of course, be stored on the PC for future reference, or for e-mailing to support personnel and suppliers.

As an alternative viewing solution, ccDotmeter also provides easyDot – a combination of microDot and software for viewing scanned results on a standard tablet device

The original Centurfax ccDot dotmeter product sold over 16,000 devices worldwide.
