High Wycombe-based Printed Solutions has increased digital production with a Konica Minolta installation running alongside its Ryobi-based offset litho printing capability.

The Konica Minolta C7000 system has been provided by Apex Digital Graphics, a long-standing partner of Printed Solutions for the provision of production equipment. “This is our second digital device from Apex, and these follow the purchase and installation of two Ryobi offset presses, a Screen computer-to-plate system, and an Epson proofing product,” explains Richard Lewis, director at Printed Solutions. “As a supplier Apex has moved into the same areas that we have wanted to expand into as a print business. All products are on service contract with them and we have an excellent relationship with the team at Apex. Any issue with a product and they take 100% ownership and get things working.”

The C7000 creates extraordinary colour and monochrome printed images at up to 70 ppm. The product incorporates real-time image density and colour density control sensors for long-run stability, as well as high-speed scanning, digital colour printing, modular inline finishing capabilities and versatile Image Controller options to fit the demands of any production workflow. The device images at up to 1200 x 1200 dpi resolution with 8-bit processing for smoother, more realistic images. High-performance Image Control options from Konica Minolta and Fiery are combined with Apex’s own pre-press knowledge, colour know-how and technical support, including the capability to provide colour management tools to match C7000 output to Printed Solutions offset production.

“Colour management of these digital devices is the key to incorporating them into a sophisticated production workflow,” said Richard Lewis. “The equipment is quite capable of producing the required results but it needs the right software and the right technical expertise to produce consistent, colour accurate results at the push of a button. Apex has that inside knowledge and we are working closely with them to perfect the colour matching on our system.”

Commenting on the installation on behalf of Apex, Neil Handforth, Sales and Marketing Director, said: “The team at Printed Solutions have a focus on where they want digital printing to take them in the market. With the Konica Minolta equipment combined with our colour printing knowledge and understanding we believe that the product that we have supplied can help them to take digital print production into exciting and profitable areas.

“All printers need to understand that digital is fast becoming an essential part of the production process. Yes, it can be critical for the profitable production of short run work, but it also has a vital role to play in the progress of personalisation in printed communications – work that you simply cannot do on a traditional offset press alone. The combined effect of digital and offset is certainly the way forward, but only if it comes with the essential colour know-how that suppliers like Apex can provide.”
