B1 Investment: Printwize Moves for More Mitsubishi

Printwize, based in Witham, Essex, has installed a second Mitsubishi B1 press with the addition of a five-colour Diamond 3000LS with coater and extended delivery. This latest press joins a six-colour Mitsubishi configuration that has been producing for the company since 2004.

“The reliability and the productivity of our first machine convinced us some time ago that Mitsubishi was the way to go when the time came for our next litho investment,” said Roger Wacey, founder and Chairman of Printwize (pictured above, left). “The six-colour has served us very well for some eleven years without a significant problem. Yes, we have kept it serviced regularly, but that’s about it: it simply doesn’t breakdown. Some German equipment that we had used in the past started really well, but reliability gradually tailed off, and service costs simply got higher and higher, meaning that confidence in the machine began to evaporate.”

M Partners had been watching the market on behalf of Printwize for a used Mitsubishi with reasonably “low mileage”. This particular machine came onto the market in Spain having printed only 36 million copies. M Partners, Ryobi Mitsubishi European Distribution Managers, were able to secure the machine, ship, and install the press in just six weeks.

Founded in 1971 by Roger Wacey, Printwize has steadily grown into a £3 million turnover business employing a team of 26, producing print 24-hours-a-day, six-days-a-week. The company prints a wide variety of colour commercial work.

“We had been running a B2 Mitsubishi as well,” said Roger. “However, we recognised that our balance of work was changing: it used to be 50/50 between B1 and B2, but gradually it has moved more towards 65-70% B1. That meant we needed to swop out the B2 machine for a second larger sized press. M Partners were able to come up with the goods for us, and we are already delighted with this latest addition.” The company’s first Mitsubishi B1 has now produced over 260 million printed sheets.

Commenting on this latest Mitsubishi press installation, Mark Stribley, Joint MD of M Partners Ltd (pictured above, right, with Gary Doman, centre, Head of Sales at M Partners), the printing and large format equipment distributor based in Surrey, said: “Once again the reliability of Mitsubishi printing presses has been championed by a printer. Roger and the Printwize team have been big fans of Mitsubishi for many years now, and it was a delight to be able to supply then with a second B1 machine. They recognise the reliability and cost effectiveness of having printing equipment that truly delivers. These presses just print – and that’s what a print business needs, rather than machines that all too often sits idle waiting for engineers or spare parts to get them running again! That downtime equals profit slowly draining out of a business.

“The consistent performance of a press not only reduces the amount of year-on-year spend on both service visits and spares to a mere trickle, it also gives the user added confidence in the performance of the equipment. There is no time lost in production, which means what has been scheduled gets produced. Reliability of the machine means that it is available for production when needed – and that’s what every printer needs.”

In 2010 M Partners took on the management of both sales and service for Mitsubishi Litho Presses in the UK and Ireland. This relationship has since grown to encompass responsibility for technical service across the whole of Europe for the now re-named Ryobi Mitsubishi business. M Partners also manage spare parts storage and distribution for Mitsubishi branded machines across Europe.

This representation joins established products such as GUK folding and inserting equipment, primarily focused towards the pharmaceutical packaging sector. M Partners offers manufacturers considerable marketing and business expertise across both the printing and packaging sectors and provides high-quality national coverage for sales, support and technical service.

The Joint Managing Directors established M Partners Ltd in 2006 after gaining many years of industry experience in senior management roles at a major press manufacturer and used equipment dealer. They were responsible for corporate and product marketing for pre-press, press, post-press and service, plus operational control for digital, consumables and used equipment divisions.
