Morgana Systems Ltd, the UK’s leading manufacturer of equipment for digital finishing, in conjunction with Bianchi Cycles, were pleased to support Morgana employee Baljit Walia when he participated in a 130 mile cycle ride with SACA, journeying from Birmingham to London on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th July. The group rode 100 miles on Saturday and 30 miles on Sunday.

Baljit (above, centre, with Bianchi jersey) joined Morgana in April of this year. The post-press specialist is part of the Grimaldi Industries Group that owns both Morgana Systems and Bianchi Cycles.

This year Baljit completed the 130-mile journey on an Italian Bianchi bike with a jersey top and bottoms also supplied courtesy of the company.

Back in 2003 he also completed a 130-mile bike ride from Birmingham to London on a Raleigh bike – a cycle that he had bought for £40. After seeing how the money he raised benefited children’s charities Baljit was determined to do another ride with a hope of raising more funds and also keeping himself fit!

This was Baljit’s 10th year riding with SACA, who were on this occasion raising money for Queen Elizabeth Hospital’s Radiotherapy Ward who see hundreds of children for their radiotherapy each year. Every year a children’s charity is selected as the beneficiary. Over the last 30 years the ride has raised in excess of £380,000 in aid of various children’s charity groups.

The Yearly Challenge

SACA, a 100% volunteer charity organisation, is the main organiser of a fundraising event. In 1984 a group of 14 aspiring youths decided to establish a challenge that could help both local and national children’s charities. They considered a number of sporting events that would test both their determination and personal fitness. They also considered the key element of working as a team and supporting each other. The challenge would require endurance, fitness and careful planning. They set the standard for what has now become a yearly summer event lasting for two days. The Birmingham to London cycle ride now attracts riders from all over the country, as well as international riders, each year and involves months of planning and adherence to safety management disciplines.
