Kingsdown Sign for RMGT 928 LED-UV Perfector

Kingsdown (Bristol) has announced a £1.3 million cap-ex spend on a Ryobi 928 LED UV offset-litho press and a Kodak Magnus Q800 CtP system.

Dave Spencer, Managing Director of Kingsdown, said: “The productivity improvements we will get from the LED-UV technology [due for delivery in December] will be significant. We are looking forward to eradicating potential drying and marking issues, smoothing workflow throughout the factory, and getting jobs out of the door much faster – and no spray powder to contend with!

“The SRA1 sheet size will make us significantly more competitive on larger jobs as well. This investment will provide us with an additional capacity of up to £4 million going forward.”

The Ryobi 928 press was demonstrated in a live environment in Europe using hand-picked jobs from the customer that could offer a perfecting challenge. “We saw everything we needed to make the decision. Seven jobs, each with a short run of 200 sheets, were produced in a fraction over one hour. The make-ready speed was awesome, and, of course, the sheets were dry to the touch at the delivery end of the machine,” added Mr. Spencer.

The company expects to create savings in excess of £200,000 year from December due to reduced production costs, including reduced power consumption, and a negotiated five-year maintenance contract with press supplier Apex Digital Graphics.

“This is about supporting the next stage of our development. We will have more news to announce over the next few weeks,” he added. Kingsdown currently employs a team of 54 and enjoys an annual turnover of £6 million.

The RMGT/Ryobi 928P is an eight-colour convertible perfecting press for 8-up A4 format print production. Two LED-UV curing units are incorporated into this configuration – one situated over the perfecting device and the other at the delivery end of the machine, enabling one-pass instant curing perfecting.

Commenting on the order for Apex Digital Graphics, Neil Handforth, Sales & Marketing Director for the company, said: “We are delighted to have secured yet another order for Ryobi’s LED-UV technology in a perfecting configuration. Printers can quickly see the obvious advantages offered by this market leading technology. When printing the test jobs for Kingsdown the speed of make-ready and the fact that perfected sheets were delivered dry and read to move instantly to the finishing department showed the power and potential of this press.”

The Print Show: Imprint to Show Live Links

SFDC Job screen (002)

Imprint-MIS, the Chelmsford-based MIS specialist, will be showing V18 of its market leading Management Information System at The Print Show, IPIA Village Section, hot on the heels of it making a Drupa debut.

To better illustrate MIS in the workplace, the Imprint system at the show will be interfaced to both Horizon bindery equipment on the IFS stand (C30) and a Ryobi printing press on the Apex Digital Graphics stand (B39). Live links will show integration messaging from both the pressroom and the finishing department of a printing business.

The demonstrations will show real-time information coming into the system such as make-ready time for a job, running speed of equipment during job creation, as well as the effects of production on a real-time scheduling package running on the system.

Information delivered to the Imprint system will update the costing system, and allow straightforward comparison between the actual cost of production versus the estimated amount.

Commenting on the benefits of showing the Imprint system at The Print Show, Sales Director Wayne Beckett, said: “Because we can show live integration with equipment on the stands of our friends at Apex and IFS, visitors can get a genuine feel of how quickly the Imprint product can react to real-time information.

“Yes, we can show canned demonstrations anywhere, but to actually be able to see a press in operation on one stand at the show, see the information from that press being delivered to the MIS system, and then see the immediate effect of that information on both the production schedule and the cost of a job, for example, really does illustrate the power and the value of the product to a potential customer. The Print Show will deliver exactly what exhibitions should provide in the modern world – integration of products to show the benefits of all of the elements.”

An electronic overview of company and product performance can be delivered by Imprint to department heads or company management via a smartphone interface or via any screen that can connect to the web, meaning that the business can be monitored at all times.

Live integration with products featured on the IFS stand and the Apex stand will enable visitors to appreciate the benefits of full integration. For products where JMF is not available, Imprint offers its own SentinelNet machine monitoring, providing sensors linked together with software to provide real-time running information of a product.

Imprint V18

Imprint-MIS v18 is a software package that provides users with intelligent, responsive, and powerful solutions, including full JDF integration across the whole shop floor. The system includes Imprint’s powerful eXpert estimating, job bag create, accurate cost monitoring product control, job management, stock control, purchase order processing, and invoicing systems.

The v18 imprint desktop is a customisable window that each user logs into when using the system. Most tasks can be performed from the desktop without the need to go into different modules.

The management and staff of M Partners, the Surrey-based printing and large format equipment distributor, were delighted to see the GB double-trap shooting star Steve Scott, sponsored by M Partners, hit a maximum 30/30 clays to clinch the bronze medal match in Brazil.

Thirty-one year old Scott, who had won gold medals at the last two Commonwealth Games events, came good at this years Olympics with perfect shooting in the third place match against England teammate Tim Kneale.

Scott’s perfect score of 30 against Kneale’s 28 secured Britain their second Rio shooting medal, after Ed Ling’s trap bronze on day three.

Speaking to the BBC after the match, Scott said: “It’s a very emotional time for me. There is a little part of me that wanted him to win as well because we worked so hard together.

“I think the expectation coming into the event was to medal, but personally I just wanted to make the final and give myself a good chance. It made me a little bit more relaxed knowing that I’m shooting off with my team-mate.”

Commenting on behalf of M Partners, Murray Lock, Joint Managing Director, (above, left, with Joint MD Mark Stribley on the right) said: “We are incredibly proud to be associated with Steve. He has performed so consistently over recent years at major international events. We look forward to celebrating his success with him when he returns to the UK.”

About M Partners

In 2010 M Partners took on the management of both sales and service for RMGT Litho Presses in the UK and Ireland. This relationship has since grown to encompass responsibility for technical service across the whole of Europe for the now re-named RMGT business. M Partners also manage spare parts storage and distribution for the former Mitsubishi branded machines across Europe.

This representation joins established products such as GUK folding and inserting equipment, primarily focused towards the pharmaceutical packaging sector. More recently the business has expanded into the digital market place following an announcement regarding exclusive distribution of large format printing equipment from Korean manufacturer DGI, and an agreement to re-sell Canon equipment, with a special focus on the unique proofing capabilities of those products.

M Partners offers manufacturers considerable marketing and business expertise across both the printing and packaging sectors and provides high-quality national coverage for sales, support and technical service.

The Joint Managing Directors established M Partners Ltd in 2006 after gaining many years of industry experience in senior management roles at a major press manufacturer and used equipment dealer. They were responsible for corporate and product marketing for pre-press, press, post-press and service, plus operational control for digital, consumables and used equipment divisions.
