Morgana Systems, Milton Keynes, a leading UK provider of equipment for offline digital finishing, has announced details of two new bookletmaker configurations that have been added to its product portfolio.

The Morgana PowerSquare™224VF and Morgana PowerSquare™160VF have been combined with Morgana’s VF Dual Bin feeder, a product initially developed by parent company Plockmatic, to provide two powerful entrants into the offline finishing arena.

The well-established PowerSquare™products were created, developed and are manufactured by Watkiss, based in Sandy, Bedfordshire. Both Morgana and Watkiss are now part of Plockmatic Group.

The Morgana PowerSquare™ 224 is a unique and innovative complete book making system for digital and offset print applications. It enables the production of books up to 224 pages. In a single machine it combines the four processes of stitching, folding, spine forming, and trimming. It features fully automatic settings for different book size and pagination, including variable stitch-leg length for varying book thicknesses. Up to 8 stitches can be placed along the spine of a book for special applications.

The Morgana PowerSquare™ 160 is the latest addition to the range meeting the needs of mid to high volume printers, and capable of producing booklets from a wide range of sheet sizes and materials, including A4 landscape format. The feeder sits at right angles to the main PowerSquare unit, giving a very compact footprint which can easily fit into the tightest of workspaces.

As well as the integration of the VF feeder, both units produce square-back booklets – a common feature now across the entire bookletmaking range from Morgana. These booklets have a formed spine, giving the look of a perfect bound publication, and making them much easier to handle and pack.

Both the Morgana PowerSquare™ models are available for demonstration in the Milton Keynes showroom.

Commenting on the integration of the Watkiss products, Ray Hillhouse, General Manager, UK Operations for the Plockmatic Group, said: “These exciting products provide Morgana with market leading bookletmaker technology to take to the offline post-press market. Since the integration of Watkiss into the Plockmatic Group, demand for their flagship PowerSquare 224 unit has never been higher.”

Whilst the Morgana team focus on offline finishing, inline versions of the Watkiss machines are being handled by Plockmatic, including OEM agreements.

Hillhouse continued: “The order book is full right now, and we continue to focus on increasing production at the Sandy site. We have added a great product range into our sales and distribution channels and now have much stronger interest from the print engine manufacturers to integrate the latest product in the range, the PowerSquare 160, in their range.

“Many of the print engines now coming to market can offer enhanced long sheet applications, and the PowerSquare 160 is ideally placed as a cost-effective solution to the increasing need for a wider range of inline booklet formats, such as landscape A4.”
