Second PUR Plus High-Capacity Creaser for Belfast’s Northside

In Finishing on June 12, 2017 at 3:30 pm

Northern Ireland’s premier digital print business, Northside Graphics Ltd of Belfast, has added further Morgana finishing equipment in order to maintain its speed of delivery of digitally printed work.

NSG Morgana sml

This latest investment consists of a Morgana DigiBook 200 PUR perfect binding machine – the second such machine for the Roundtower Industrial Estate premises – and a Morgana AutoCreaser Pro 385 creasing machine, the first of the new high-capacity units to be installed in Northern Ireland. The new equipment has been purchased through and installed by Reprocentre NI, the Morgana dealer for Northern Ireland.

Commenting on the purchase decision, Richard Campbell, Operations Director at Northside in Belfast, said: “The recent purchase of a second Morgana DigiBook binder and high-capacity AutoCreaser has been made necessary by the huge growth in demand for PUR books from both Northside clients in Northern Ireland and from Northside’ s online business at the www.digitalprinting.co.uk web site.

“After working with the first DigiBook 200 for over a year, the purchase of a second machine was, for us, an easy decision and allowed us to keep up with the large growth in our customers’ demand for PUR bound books. We are able to produce any size and page content of book with quantities from 1 to 500 or more.

“The second Morgana DigiBook 200 has been purchased to replace an older PUR binder that had simply not been able to keep up with the quality, speed, and efficient production of the Morgana machine.”

Northside already has a number Morgana AutoCreasers and were about to purchase an additional machine to work alongside the new binder when the local dealer introduced the new Pro 385.

“The main benefit of the 385 is that we can crease covers for our PUR books in one pass rather than two thanks to its dual creasing capability, as well as produce other creased products faster than was previously possible. The new AutoCreaser Pro 385 sits with our two PUR binders so that we can quickly and easily crease all the covers for PUR bound books as we need them. The 385 is the first piece of equipment that we have bought without a live demo simply on the strength of our relationship with both Reprocentre and Morgana. We know and trust their products.”

Northside produce a wide range of digital print including leaflets, flyers, folders, labels, invites and booklets. The company currently employ 47 staff at the Belfast plant, providing a recently introduced 24-hour production capability. Northside’s current turnover is approximately £4 million per year.

Commenting on the installation, Bill Forde of Reprocentre NI, said: “We are delighted to have been able to assist Northside once again with the post-press equipment needs of the company. Having installed Northern Ireland’s first DigiBook 200 there almost a year ago, the need for a second such unit shows the growth of the customer, as well as their confidence in the equipment provided by Morgana. They now have the first AutoCreaser Pro 385 in Northern Ireland.”

PUR Binding from Morgana

PUR is the strongest, most flexible binding adhesive available. When inks, coatings or digital print toners are present in the spine area of printed pages these can compromise the strength of typical hot-melt perfect binding. PUR overcomes this issue and will form a super-strong bond with all weights and finishes of paper stocks. In addition PUR works well with synthetic and recycled-content stock.

The DigiBook 200 is a truly innovative binding machine designed and built for today’s market requirements. It is easy to use, even by non-specialised personnel, via a touch screen panel and icon graphics that allow the programming of all precision operations in just a few seconds, including start-up and shut-down. Glue application is direct and hermetically sealed, without odour or toxic fume emissions, therefore not requiring extraction fans. The polyurethane glue is delivered via 2kg cartridges in a simple and waste-free manner.

AutoCreaser Pro 385

The introduction of a high-capacity vacuum top-feeder that can take a sheet pile of some 450mm is ideal for a busy print plant. Once the size and thickness of stock are entered, all other feeder functions including air and vacuum settings, and side guide positions are automatically adjusted for quick and easy setup of jobs. Stock of up to 0.4mm can be creased with virtually no cracking of the sheets or the toner on them.

As well as the new feeder, this version of the AutoCreaser will have a dual creasing blade and matrix, which is particularly useful if producing covers for perfect binding where the spine and hinge creases can be produced in one pass, or for those users who wish to change creasing profiles regularly. The new AutoCreaser Pro 385 can run at up to 8,500 sheets per hour.

Twenty10 Digital Add DigiFold Pro for Faster Folding

In Finishing on November 3, 2016 at 11:03 am

Northampton-based Twenty10 Digital has added a Morgana DigiFold Pro to its finishing line-up in order speed through a growing amount of work requiring creasing and folding. The system was purchased from Morgana Systems Ltd, Milton Keynes, the UK’s leading manufacturer of equipment for digital finishing.

twenty10-digifold-small

The Digifold Pro is the ideal product for creasing/folding heavier weight paper stock. It is designed specifically for the professional digital or litho printer with a need to crease and fold printed, heavy weight or cross grained stock.

Commenting on the purchase, Paul Riley, Managing Director of Twenty10 Digital, said: “Growing business from a greetings card client meant that we needed to take a closer look at our creasing and folding capacity. Whilst we had used the DocuMaster along with our Morgana Major folder, they are simply not fast enough to keep up with the growing volume of work that we were producing. What had been taking us five hours to produce using our existing devices can now be produced in one hour on the DigiFold Pro.”

In addition to the greetings card work, Twenty10 is also using the machine for folding an increasing volume of DL sized four-page work. “The DigiFold Pro is extremely versatile and flexible. Set-up is extremely fast, operation very simple to learn, and a skew facility allows for small adjustments in the crease and fold actions for printed sheets slightly off square, which can sometimes happen with digital print. This machine is another fine example of the robust, quality engineering provided by Morgana.”

Passing comment on this latest addition to Twenty10’s finishing suite, Ray Hillhouse, Vice President of Sales & Marketing at Morgana Systems, said: “Twenty10’s award winning history is testament to the quality of work that the company produces, and we are delighted to be able to provide a wide range of Morgana products to help them achieve such excellence in the finishing department.”

Morgana DigiFold Pro employs a unique creasing rule and matrix, the DynaCrease, that eliminates tearing and, therefore, cracking on a digitally printed sheet. By using this patented technology DigiFold Pro is able to crease and fold over 6,000 A4 sheets an hour. This excellent throughput speed is achieved by creasing the sheet without stopping it, yet maintaining an accuracy of +/‐ 0.1mm.

Controlled by the same innovative seven-inch SmartScreen panel as the rest of the Morgana Pro range, DigiFold Pro is instructed how long the sheet is and which crease and fold to produce. All settings and adjustments are made using the SmartScreen and, as only symbols are used, operation couldn’t be simpler.

Twenty10 Digital is used to finishing work with Morgana equipment – the company already runs a wide range of product from the Milton Keynes based manufacturer, including a DigiBook 200 PUR binder for perfect bound products; a CardXtra for business cards and other small format jobs; a DocuMaster for bookletmaking; a Matrix laminator; Rhin-o-Tuff wire-o binding product; and a Morgana Major Folder.

About Twenty10 Digital

The philosophy behind the business was to bring together the very best people, technology, and processes to create work that everybody involved could feel extremely proud. The company employs a total of six personnel generating a turnover in excess of £500,000. Twenty10 has been won for several national print awards, and has made a huge impact on the digital print world. The business is quickly setting the standards for others to follow.
