The Print Show, Birmingham, saw the UK launch of Morgana and Plockmatic Group’s next generation of digital finishing products, the all new BM5000 and BM3000 booklet makers.

With an increasing number of printing systems available to handle larger cut-sheet sizes, A3 landscape and oversize booklets can now be produced easily and cost-effectively with these new products. The new BM5035 and BM5050 products deliver these new applications by handling sheets of up to 620mm in length, enabling the production of the ever popular A4 landscape format.

Commenting on the new equipment, Ray Hillhouse, General Manager, UK Operations for the Plockmatic Group, said: “We are proud to be showing the most innovative refresh of our portfolio ever. The all new Morgana BM5000 and BM3000 are the latest members of the Plockmatic Group booklet making family, engineered for mid-to-high volume customers with the highest quality and functionality.”

The BM5050 and BM3050 can staple and fold up to 50 sheets of 80gsm to create booklets of up to 200-pages. The BM5035 and BM3035 are capable of handling 35 sheets to create up to 140-page booklets.

“An even lower cost per copy can be achieved with the BM5050S, with its four stitching heads. Users will be able to finish jobs of up to 50 sheets, that have been imposed two-up on a sheet, for higher productivity and efficiency.”

Maximum paper size on the BM5000 machines is 320mm by 620mm. On the BM3000 machines, 305mm by 457mm.

The booklet maker can be specified with either two or up to four stitching heads. This gives customers the ability to further tailor their system and finish a wider variety of booklet sizes. A system also can provide edge stitching in one or two locations for even more flexibility.

Morgana BM3035/3050

The new Morgana BM3035/3050 will provide for modular booklet making solutions for centralised reproduction departments and commercial print providers, large and small. Customers can choose from a range of cost-effective options to support their application requirements. The system is packed with a host of unique technologies that deliver finished books with quality to match today’s printing systems.

Hillhouse added: “Customers are demanding more media versatility from digital print, and Morgana needs to be equipped to follow that demand. This latest range of Morgana products have been designed from the ground up to work with today’s coated, uncoated and textured paper stocks.

“Both product ranges incorporate true stapling for high-quality stitching from spooled wire, providing some 50,000 stitches per spool.”

Offline versions of the products will be available from Morgana whilst inline versions from Plockmatic will be available through the leading digital engine suppliers.

Options

The Morgana BM3000 and BM5000 can be equipped with the vacuum VF602, a dual bin feeder designed for pre-collated sets. Each bin can be loaded separately on the run to give continuous production.

Face Trimmer: the addition of the trimmer removes the shingled effect on the face of the folded document and provides a clean document edge.

SquareFold:this unit adds a square folded spine for a professional, perfect bound look to the finished book.

iOS13 for iPhone Available Right Now

In Pre-Press on September 22, 2019 at 1:21 pm

So, whilst we now expect iPadOS13 to land on September 24th, iOS13 for the phone only is already available. You can download now. Interestingly, whilst things like dark mode and the swipe keyboard might appear to be the big advances, you can also now add a mouse to help operate your phone!

Why, you might well ask? OK, let me offer a scenario: you are a sales person out on the road, or a marketing exec on a train. You have new notes or e-mails to create, but your laptop or even your iPad is too bulky to carry around . . . enter the iPhone with added hardware!

First, add a Bluetooth mouse to your system. I’ve added a LogiTech MX Anywhere 2 device. Enter Settings, Accessibility, and then Touch. Switch AssistiveTouch to “on” and then scroll down to Devices. In Connected Devices you should see your mouse. Tap the name and you will see the Buttons on your mouse for you to define. My own reference is for Button 1 to be single-tap (most likely you will too); Button 2 to be Home; and Button 3 to be Screenshot (see the image above). There are plenty of other options. However, you also have an on- screen Menu for assertive touch – that grey blob at the bottom of the screen. Touch it and you will reveal a host of extra options (see the grey box on the home screen on the first photo).

Up to eight functions can be included, though if you include Device as one of them that will offer a second and third set of options.

Real-world benefits? It has been possible to add Bluetooth keyboards for many iterations of the iPhone, but because of this new mouse facility, a folding keyboard with a small integrated trackpad now works (such as the above). In my opinion this creates a great pocket sized package. Get a small sized stand and you have a very useable and easy to carry text entry system.
