Prepress UK, the pre-press specialists based in Brighton, has sold and installed its first PressProfiler product to a printing company in Australia. Southport Printing Co. in Queensland have purchased the ink key pre-setting system for a Heidelberg SM52.

PressProfiler integrates with the printers new Screen Equios workflow without the need for them to purchase the Equios CIP3 option, saving the company even more money than the already competitively priced Prepress UK product when compared to Heidelberg’s offering.

Commenting on the purchase, Andrew Kelly of Southport Printing Company (pictured above), said, “PressProfiler is a product that represents great value. To do the same with the press manufacturers own branded package would cost five times as much. The team at Prepress UK do a fantastic job at a great price!

“We were particularly impressed by the remote installation and calibration service. Faster and just as effective, but significantly more affordable, than sending an engineer to do the job. The profiles and ink sweeps are extremely accurate, saving both time and money.”

Commenting on the installation, Prepress UK’s Sales Director Nic Chapman said: “It is a pleasure to supply a UK developed product to a printer in Australia. We were delighted to get the initial lead for this sale from our advertising campaign for our dedicated PressProfiler.com website.”

“We are looking forward to having discussions with other Australian printers seeking effective software solutions. Australian printers certainly understand print and can appreciate products that make financial sense as well as making their life easier and their production more effective. We would like to think of this as the first of many installations.”

Southport Printing Co. now joins existing PressProfiler customers in UK, USA, France, Italy, Germany, Sweden, South Africa, Israel, and Ireland.

How it Works: PressProfiler

PressProfiler examines digital files received from any workflow and generates ink key pre-setting data to save set-up time on an offset litho printing press at job change over. Whilst PressProfiler can feed directly into the press console of newer machines, integration with older equipment can be achieved in conjunction with Prepress UK’s unique CardWriter package.

Latest RMGT Press for Award Winning Resource

In Offset Presses on November 21, 2019 at 2:22 pm

Award-winning resource, a Leeds-based marketing company with its own litho and digital printing capability, has announced details of an exciting upgrade to its litho printing equipment. Following detailed discussions with MPL, the UK distributor of RMGT sheetfed presses, the company was able to trade back its existing Ryobi 925 for the very latest version of that A1-format press – an RMGT 925 equipped with LED-UV for instant drying and fully-automatic simultaneous plate changing for lightning fast job changeovers.

During the five years since its previous litho investment, the company has successfully rebranded itself as a full-service agency providing creative design, web-based marketing,  event creation and management and printing solutions. “We see ourselves as now offering clients a fully integrated marketing solution encompassing all available channels,” says  David Woodcock, Operations Director.

“When talking to clients we are seeking to provide them with a complete promotional campaign and whilst print can often be a key element of the package, it is just one part of the whole campaign that we will design.”

LED-UV was the key element of the new five-colour litho press. “We had been looking at the developments in litho for some time. LED-UV struck us as a game changer. The ability to deliver dry to the touch sheets at the end of the press brings litho that little bit closer to the immediacy of digital.”

The company also opted for the top of the range simultaneous plate changing option, giving the new press the capability of changing all five printing plates in just one minute, speeding up the whole make-ready process significantly. Coupled with this is a fast blanket wash cycle option, helping to produce a sub-four-minute make-ready from last sheet off to first sheet off on the next job.

Typical of the projects handled by resource is the event management work recently undertaken for two major car manufacturers. “We manage everything from creative concept, the design and build through to the printing of all collateral. Retaining our own printing facility means that we keep control of everything from the timing of production to the output quality,” says Phil Thompson, Managing Director of resource. “Quality standards of the printed work are controlled in-house by working to ISO 12647 standards on both digital and litho work.”

RMGT’s latest software features are aimed towards fewer sheets being used in the make-ready along with the ability to adapt the ink key curves at a touch of a button to keep the press optimised at all times.

“Our previous RMGT press was incredibly reliable – reliability is important to us as a business; if our press lets us down, we are in danger of letting a client down, and that’s something that we just cannot entertain,” added Phil Thompson.

A full promotional campaign from resource can include creative design, print, marketing, strategy, data management, mailing, digital, web development and social media delivered from one single source.

Its own award-winning self-marketing campaign “CommsHero” is evidence enough of the power that resource can produce in a promotion. The company received over £1.3 million in new business from its first year of activity with this campaign – business that has increased to even higher levels since. The latest Printweek accolade of “SME Company of the Year” proves the continued excellence of resource.

The A1 sheet size of the RMGT 925 press is an ideal format for many printers as it can accommodate 8-up A4 work without moving to a more expensive B1 press option. The B2-sized frame means that it literally has the same footprint as most B2 presses and a significantly smaller one than all the B1 machines, in addition to the savings that can be made with press consumables and power consumption against the larger format. RMGT’s LED-UV drying system led the way in the print sector when it was introduced back in 2008.

The LED-UV instant drying, simultaneous fully-automatic plate change, Ryobi Matic D dampening, and a 55-inch screen press monitoring station are just some of the key features of this impressive press.

RMGT’s press information display at the main console helps the operator identify any requirements for change, and includes colour control, job information, and sheet travel all displayed on the large flat screen in real time. The additional Wi-Fi enabled tablet that also comes with the system gives the operator a chance to leave the console and prepare the next job while still being able to see all of the press information to ensure the printing continues in the correct manner.

Colour is controlled by the fully integrated closed loop PDS-E SpectroDrive. resource required ISO reporting with Bodoni PressSign, which was added by the MPL team as the press was installed.

Fast Fiery Finishing from Morgana and EFI

In Finishing on November 21, 2019 at 2:05 pm

Morgana Systems, a wholly owned subsidiary of Plockmatic International, has collaborated with EFI to develop a time-saving integration between Fiery driven print engines, Fiery workflow software, and Morgana finishing devices.

Templates are now available for the most common jobs, such as business cards or postcards, to use in Fiery Impose. These match the finishing templates on the Morgana AutoCut Pro multi-function finishing device, saving up to 70% in set-up time.

The finishing templates come pre-set with measurements for the margins and gutters as well as finished sizes. The templates use cut registration marks that let the Morgana AutoCut Pro compensate for image shift automatically without manual intervention during the production run. The templates are available in both metric and imperial measurements.

Commenting on the introduction of this enhanced automated finishing solution, Ray Hillhouse, General Manager, UK Operations, Plockmatic Group, said: “Customers are continually seeking ways to cut production time on printed jobs whilst increasing profitability at the same time. This is our latest automated solution to assist users in finishing regular work – saving time, ensuring accuracy, speeding up production, and therefore increasing profit on the job.

“EFI’s Fiery RIP is used extensively across the industry. Users will now have access to the Morgana templates used on our AutoCut Pro product. The Fiery RIP’s Impose module can then impose jobs to match the needs of our finishing device.”

The Morgana AutoCut Pro is a multi-function finishing device for cutting, slitting and creasing. The unit has been designed for busy digital print shops that have a need for high speed creasing and trimming for a wide range of products, including business cards and promotional products.

The tri-suction feeding mechanism is able to handle paper weights from 120 to 350gsm, whilst sheet sizes can range from 210 x 210mm to 330 x 700mm in length. AutoCut Pro has a double feed detection sensor to avoid wasting valuable printed stock, as well as a skew adjustment facility and a cut mark sensor capable of reading any image drift to ensure a consistent finish without the need for operator intervention.

Running at speeds of up to 5,000 sheets per hour on standard creasing applications, a typical run of 250 business cards can be finished in less than two minutes.
